Compensation and Schedule for the Financial Counselor 
Financial Counselor – Full-time, onsite, $21-$28 per hour, Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm. Amazing benefits and ownership of your accounts! 

Required Qualifications of the Financial Counselor 
- 2+ years of recent medical financial counselor experience required 
- Strong AHCCCS knowledge required  
- High school diploma or GED required 
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check and drug screen 

Job Summary for the Financial Counselor 
Work with patient families to educate them on applicable insurance benefits and payment options for out-of-pocket amounts due. For uninsured and underinsured patients, assist the family in obtaining 3rd party coverage through government and/or commercial plans and walk them through the financial assistance application process. Provide a customer service friendly approach that is coordinated with the patient care team to ensure that the family has a full understanding of liability, coverage and coverage options, and payment options. 

Responsibilities of the Financial Counselor 
- Explain relevant benefits and applicable out of pocket amounts based on data obtained through various electronic tools and in-payer websites 
- Determine patients’ ability to pay and review existing balances 
- Develop a comprehensive plan to cover out of pocket amounts  
- Assist with the resolution of billing inquiries by facilitating process with customer service 
- Provide patient estimates prior to service to assist patients in determining cost of services and options for payment 
- Provide accurate and timely documentation for patient accounts explaining activities and interactions with family members, staff, and outside sources on behalf of the patient 
- Provide complete and orderly financial assistance packets to management for review and approval 
- Track all financial assistance applications in central repository 
- Work collaboratively with other departments, payers, and vendors on behalf of the patient 
- Maintain a general understanding of the Federal Marketplace, Medicare, Managed Care, AHCCCS, and other third-party payer rules, authorization and billing requirements 
- Provide feedback to management regarding work related problems and assist with resolutions to provide excellent customer service 
- Perform other miscellaneous job-related duties as requested
